As a famous traif commentator once said: "That's all folks." Micah and I completed massachet Taanit yesterday in the common room of the Mathilde Schechter Residence Hall of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
The massechet ends with a lovely rabbinic fantasy about the place of the righteous in the world to come. In paradise, God places the righteous in a circle, and they all point fingers at God and said, "This is our God, our Hope and our Salvation." As Micah said, in the end, after all the talk of fasts and prayers and hopes and dreams, all we can really do is point our fingers at God and say, "We believe." Sometimes that is harder, sometimes that easier. But in the end, at its most basic, that is probably the faith we live with most of the time.
We begin massechet Chagiga on Monday, January 28th. I hope you will join us.
